The recipient of numerous national and international awards, Ellyn Pollack's education campaigns resulted in people modifying their behavior to improve their health and well being. Respected by her peers, Ellyn has served as a mentor for colleagues new to the field of public relations, and has been a role model for public relations graduate students.
- While being an active member of the Public Relations Society of America, she served as:
- Chair of the Board of Directors of the PRSA Health Academy
- co-chair of the PRSA Sections Council
- A Board Member of the National Capital Chapter
She was also instrumental in the growth of the PRSA Health Academy membership and the expansion of its professional development programs.
In 2011, Ellyn was inducted into the prestigious Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) College of Fellows. Founded in 1990, the College of Fellows recognizes individuals who have demonstrated superior capabilities as public relations educators. Always on the cutting edge of her profession, Ellyn became Accredited in Public Relations (APR) in 1989 after passing national written and oral exams, and continues to serve as a mentor for others striving for the same accomplishment.
Ellyn is well respected for her strong background in health and biomedical public relations. In 2004, she established Pollack Communications, a strategic health communications consulting firm that serves both the public and private sectors. Prior to venturing out on her own, she served as Vice President at Matthews Media Group working on numerous Federal government contracts. She also worked at the National Institutes of Health for more than 15 years, including 11 years as Communications Director for the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health. She started her career at The George Washington University Medical Center. Ellyn earned her master’s degree in public relations from the University of Maryland-College Park, and her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also is a graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
